Free Dining Room in Santa Rosa
Providing a nourishing lunch 365 days a year
Opened in 1984, the Free Dining Room is one of the oldest and largest facilities in Santa Rosa to serve hot meals to the hungry, seven days per week, 365 days per year. Each year, volunteers serve more than 90,000 nourishing meals to the homeless and low-income people of Sonoma County.
The Free Dining Room relies on the support of many people from varied backgrounds who volunteer in excess of 10,000 hours of time each year. Also many grocery/specialty stores, restaurants, the Redwood Empire Food Bank, and other suppliers generously donate over $700,000 of food per year, helping to keep our program cost-effective.
This video, “Chicken a la Carte,” was judged the most popular short film at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival, and is a stark reminder that the food we often thoughtlessly discard may become the only meal that some people have:
Location & Hours
Caring volunteers in our free Dining Room prepare and serve a hot, nutritious lunch from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm every day, 365 days a year.
The Dining Room is located in the Railroad Square area of Santa Rosa, at 610 Wilson Street. Entrance is through the back of the building off 7th St.

The free Dining Room in Santa Rosa needs volunteers to:
- Help prepare and serve meals
- Greet guests
- Count guests
- Host our Help Desk
- Host our clothes closet
- Pick up food (requires Class C license)
- Help with building maintenance
