A Thank You letter from Gregory:
To all the many volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul,
I understand that ‘thank you’ does not cover what I want you to know—how grateful I am for all you have done for me this year with such love and kindness.
I know that ‘pride’ is a sin and I have always been a very proud person. I was not always poor. I graduated from a fine school and went into my own design business where I worked until I was 70, retiring with what I thought was a nice little nest egg. My father lived to be 105 and 4 months so I wanted to be prepared.
Everything was fine until a few years ago when I wrote the monthly checks and they all bounced. Upon investigation I learned that my investment company took everything—along with over 130 other investors’ funds and disappeared. I was left with just social security. This all happened just before the Bernie Madoff scam.
As you might have guessed, “proud Gregory” became “humble Gregory” very quickly.
I am telling you this because I want you to know how very grateful I am for all the compassionate goodness that spills out of all of you every week.
Thank you and may you all have the best holidays celebrating Jesus birth and the New Year.
Gregory
